Rob was born in Glasgow in 1961. He studied sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art. In his third year he was selected to represent the college as an exchange student with the Lecole des Beaux arts in Tour, France. Rob graduated in 1986 with a Ba Hons degree in Sculpture.

From 1989 to present day he has exhibited widely in the UK and overseas with many installation projects.

In 1992 he was commissioned by Glasgow Festival to create a landmark 350ft installation on Glasgow Green titled the Green man, using 300,000 empty drinks cans.

Recently Rob was commissioned by Scottish Enterprise and the Forestry Commission to create a sculptural representation of animals and birds as part of the natural food chain, it is on view in Loch Ard Nature Reserve which is part of the Family Friendly Forest trails in Scotland.

Rob also continues to create stunning hand spun metal bowls and sculptures as shown in this exhibition. The metal is burnished after being hand spun in various textures. The bowls are then slowly heated to create a myriad of colours. Rob says; ' By controlling the heat i can draw on the surface using the flame. In essence, the torch replaces the brush.' This freehand method allows each piece to be a unique one-off artwork.
